Early last fall, shortly after school started, the Springs family was evicted from their apartment. Ms. Springs lost her job and was unable to pay the rent. The Relatives Safe House on East Boulevard is the local affiliate for the National Safe Place initiative.
With over 76 community organizations and businesses working together as Safe Place partners, this year's Safe Place Week is truly a community celebration. Nutcracker Ball Dedicates Proceeds
Thanks to the heart and dedication of Ellen Holland, The Relatives was the recipient of proceeds from the 2010 Nutcracker Ball. This family event combines holiday cheer with charitable awareness in the Charlotte community.

Breakfast With The Relatives took place on Tuesday, November 9th, 2010 and raised more than $80,000 in unrestricted funds crucial to the operation of The Relatives and its programs. Dilworth United Methodist Church hosted the event--a fitting choice as they were the original founders of The Relatives from their church basement in 1974, and long-time supporters of the mission to keep kids safe and families together. Thanks to a collaborative grant effort from the Cannon Foundation, Friends on a Mission, and Charlotte Woman’s Club, The Relatives' Safe House underwent three much-needed bathroom remodels for residents of the East Boulevard residence. We are so grateful to these organizations for helping The Relatives stay in good repair for the kids who depend on us for safety. View before and after photos here.

In the short time since its launch, On Ramp has touched the lives of over 75 youth in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area. Helping young adults ages 16-24 become successfully independent, On Ramp is the dynamic collaboration of community partners who shared the vision of giving these youth a chance for a future.
